Naturals Night Out, 05/21/11-Madusalon, San Francisco!

So I FINALLY  made it to a Naturals Night Out last Saturday night! I was so excited to participate in this event–Natural Selection, one of my fave natural hair blogs, Jessicurl, and Madusalon teamed up to teach, enrich, and inspire us natural girls (and guys!) with awesome demonstrations, samples, giveaways, tutorials, and of course, champagne.

Shannon the stylist got the model's hair this voluminous using Jessicurl products!

I couldn't believe how fast stylist Isabel created Bobbi's amazing Bantu knots!

I had never used Jessicurl before, but I was intrigued by several of the products–ridiculously fierce stylist, Isabel, created the tightest, most flawless Bantu knots on her hair model, Bobbi, that I have ever seen. She braided in some purple pieces, then zig-zagged them around the back…I can’t even explain how hot Bobbi looked.

This event was for men and women who spanned all over the curly spectrum, and demos were done on kinky curls, loose waves, and even locs. The poor loc model didn’t know what he got himself into when his stylist brought the scary loc-making tool towards his head and started doing her thing…let’s just say, beauty can be a little uncomfortable. She did what she came there to do, though–she used a Jessicurl refreshing spray on his hair and twisted it to perfection.

Ouch. No, really. Ouch.

The giveaways at NNO were crazy…my new friend, Rachel, is a total PJ (Product Junkie) who CLEANED UP! Even her mom won a prize!

The super adorable Rachel wins big. I wanted to hate her, but look how damn cute she is!

All the stuff she got-a variety of follicular treats!

There were so many cool products discussed and demo’d that I have to talk about ALL OF THEM (at least the ones I saw) in another post. I can’t wait to try all of my samples. Also, the jewelry line Stella & Dot hosted a trunk show downstairs. Lovely Stella & Dot hostess Savona Charisse let me try on some of their incredible pieces. I will definitely be making some purchases-I can’t believe I controlled myself and left without my favorite necklace.

I really want this necklace. And a few others were equally scrumptious.

I was obsessing over this attendee's colorful bow.

All evening long, people were touching each other’s hair, sharing product and styling info, and naming their favorite websites. The multi-colored bow in the pic above is from Boxing Kitten, and I was happy to find it online (as if I need more hair do-dads, but whatever).

I finally met the stunning Cassadie from Natural Selection, after following her blog forever.

Next week, I’ll be talking about all the products that I checked out that beckoned me to try them…which ones will mysteriously appear in my already cluttered bathroom?

Jess, creator of Jessicurl, has perfect red ringlets on the right. She demo's a look on an attendee, who now has perfect curls too!

Stay tuned for more pics, products, and people…more next week!

OK, I can see the possibilities but I also need to see some older women – the grey haired sort – how does all this fashion age? Like good wine? That’s what I’m talking about!

Anyone who can work the word ‘follicular’ into an article, is a hero of mine. This was great to see all these ladies…and gentleman sharing an evening in celebration of beautiful curls both tight and loose. I will be sharing this blog entry with friends for sure.

Cheryl I’m so glad you mentioned that…there were people of all ages at the event, many of whom were trying to work up the nerve to take the “natural plunge”. It can be scary! I’m definitely interested in fashion and beauty for women of ALL ages…it’s comin’! Stay tuned!

Thanks Katherine, I wasn’t even aware of the Black Weblogs feature until you told me! Even though you’re leaving the area, I hope you keep up with the blog. Take care and good luck in your new home :)
